SysOn CF memory GPS driver for Window mobile 5.0 is not compatible with Dell Axim x51v yet. You can use our CF memory GPS with any other PDA which have Window Mobile 5.0, but only the Dell PDA have some compatibility issue not only with our product but also with other company's CF type product. This is because the Dell Axim x51v with WM 5.0 has shorter BIOS bus timing than industrial standards. We are waiting the Dell Axim to issue a Rom upgrade to solve the basic problem. The Dell Axim x50v which is upgraded to Windows Mobile 5.0 shows same problem. So, in this case we recommend you to use our CF plus GPS or Smart Blue instead of CF memory GPS. SysOn CF plus and CF plus III are plug&play product so the Dell PDA recognize it immediately.
Inside the SysOn GPS, there is backup battery to shorten the time to get a first fix. This backup battery can be charged with very small power. It save the last position data in order that the chipset can search the signal and caculate the data fast. But when you leave the unit for a long time or the receiver is moved long distance, the last saved data cannot help to shorten the TTFF and it will do a Cold start. When you use the GPS for the first time, it will also have a cold start. The unit do a hot start when it disconnected and reconnected soon, which usually takes one to ten seconds before TTFF.
SysOn viewer program enables to make hot start, warm start, cold start and factory start manually. The factory start turns back the setting to the first production state.
WAAS stands for Wide Area Augmentation System and is a system of satellites and ground stations that provide GPS signal corrections. As is true of the GPS satellites, there is no extra charge or equipment required to take advantage of WAAS/EGNOS. Because the SysOn Bluetooth GPS is WAAS/EGNOS support, it is possible where WAAS(US)and EGNOS(Europe) are available to experience accuracy of under three meters for the majority of tracking time. Our SysOn Smart Blue, CF plus III and CF memory GPS III can use this function.
It is one of the chipsets which calculate position data from the satellite signal. The SiRF chipset shows good performance in speed and accuracy comparing to the other chipset. We, SysOnChip, combined this chipset with our accumulated knowhow in communcation and RF area and produce high performance GPS receivers. Currently ther chipset was developed to SiRF III version, and it is adopted in SysOn Smart Blue GPS and SysOn CF plus III and CF memory III.
The time from the satellite is most exact. There is automic clock in the GPS satellite and it is known as the most exact clock in the world. It can have 1 second error during 1,000,000 years, so you may regard this as the real time. The position accuracy is 10 meters at most. And when it receives from a number of satellites and when it use WAAS/EGNOS system, the accuracy will be higher.
The 24 GPS satellites circle the earth on the 6 orbits in about 20,180km from the ground. And the signal from these satellite is free of charge and anyone can use it.
The PNS(Personal Navigation System) is the navigation system for walking or enjoying leports. The CNS means car navigation system. Usually CNS system makes use of driving features and PNS consider that people can go not only on the road but also inside the builing. SysOn GPS products support both PNS and CNS.
NMEA is an organization that was formed to set a standard among marine hardware manufactures such that all the devices could seamlessly communicate and interact with each other. The NMEA-0183 standard provides a standard messaging protocol that includes many GPS sentences. Since marine navigation was one of the first adopters of GPS technology, GPS manufactures would output the NMEA sentences from their devices for communication and aiding control of the boats autopilot system. Over the years the NMEA-0183 standard has evolved and most GPS support this protocol, and most GPS enabled software applications know how to read the NMEA sentences. NMEA compliant means that the device or application will work within the guidelines set by this standard. In layman's terms NMEA 2.0 compliant means the GPS is compatible with most mapping and GPS tracking applications. For the software application NMEA compliant means the application knows how to interpret sentences originating from a NMEA compliant source. All the SysOn GPS products support both NMEA and SiRF binary protocol.
The CF type GPS gets best signal when it is upright position to the ground. The antenna part of Bluetooth GPS lies on the upper part of the unit, so it will be difficult to get the signal when you put the Bluetooth GPS upside down. To get the more satellite signal, place the unit in the clear view of sky and no tall buiding nearby. It is difficult to get the signal indoor except for near the window, and inside the car it will get less signal than outside. Furthermore, the metallic coating on the car windshield blocks the signal coming through the window. When you use inside the car, the nearer to the window, the signal is better.
In the normal condition, it takes less than 10 seconds to get the signal again. This can happen usually when the area is not good for the reception, or the map software has bug or it is not installed correctly, or GPS is faulty. If this happen several times, please reinstall the map software or check the receiver. With SysOn viewer program, do a cold start manually and compare the time before it gets fixed signal.
The time may be different depending on the product and chipset. To check the reception performance, you should check it in the good signal area. In outdoor and no tall buiding or bridge nearby, the GPS usually takes one to two minutes to get the fixed signal. When the unit does a hot start like going into tunnel, it will get the singnal within10 seconds. But this may be affected by landscape, battery state, map software, etc. For the TTFF of Cold start/ Warm start / Hot start, please refer to the technical specification of each product.
CF type GPS When the card gets exceed pressure or bent, the inner board can be damaged. If the card is bent or the connected part of the plastic and the metal is detached, it means the inner board may be broken.
Bluetooth GPS It is difficult to check from the outside. But high temperature over 50oC can cause the seperation of the components, so it will make a noise when you shake the unit. Or when the unit is swellen, the battery is damaged.
Please check if the problem comes from the the wrong setting or not. Sometimes we receive a normal unit and then it is found out that the user have set the wrong mode, Com port. After check and sure that the unit is faulty, please send an e-mailbonnie@sysonchip.co.kr> to process RMA.
Yes, the SysOn GPS can work in any country in the world. They are compatible with almost all kind of map software. But, the warranty repair or replacement will be only available through the reseller you bought the unit from or us.
Basically the distrubutor or reseller where you bought the unit from will, as its option, repair or replace the product. If this is not possible, the home office in Korea can warrant the unit.
If the problem does not come from the user's misuses, and if the unit is under the warranty period, you can have a free warranty repair or replacement. The time that takes for A/S depends on the each reseller's A/S policy. But when customers send the unit directly to us, it will take around 7 days from the arrival date to sending.
SusOnChip warrants against defects in material and workmanship, under normal use and service, for one(1) year from the date of purchase. In EU countries, the warrnaty period is 2 years from the purchasing. And this warranty applies only to the original consumer purchaser and is not assignable or transferable. And after having warrranty repair, you can have additional 3 months of warranty period on the same part. For more information, please refer to the A/S information. For the warranty repair and replacement, contact the reseller. If this is not possible, contact us directly.
No, the other company's external antennas are not compatible with SysOn GPS products. The connector type of SysOn External antenna is designed specially only for SysOn GPS, so it is different from standard MC or MMC. You can use the SysOn External antenna for all the SysOn GPS units like SysOn CF plus, CF memory, Smart Blue, Bluetooth and Looket G7.
To avoid fuse burning in the car cigarette charger, plug in the cigarette charger after igniting the car. The exceeding current can be generated from the car and it may damage the fuse of cigar charger or the IC part of the product.
You can buy the additional accessories from the reseller you bought the unit. If the reseller doesn't provide the accessories, you can directly contact us.
When the batteries of Bluetooth GPS and the PDA are not enough, they need to be charged during the navigation. The Y-cable enables charging both PDA and GPS at the same time with one cigarette charger.
The package for CF plus and CF memory includes GPS unit, CD and manual. The unit contents of Smart Blue and Bluetooth GPS might vary depending on the countries and resellers.
Basically the 5V, 1.5A adapter can operate SysOn GPS. But it will be strictly out of general warranty to use other power supplies which in not included in the unit package. Using faulty power supply or using different power capacity can damage the GPS unit.
If you want the car navigation, first of all please check the coating material of the car windshield. Some vehicles which have special metallic car windshield coating block the satellite signal coming through the window. In this case, the SysOn External antenna is essential. And when you use CF plus GPS in laptop computer, it is difficult the antenna is upright position and the external anteann is essential.
PDA doesn't have serial port for the power, so SysOn Blue Sync gets power from the car cigar charger. But with the cigar charger, the PDA is charged simultaneously.
Most of case, the SysOn Blue Sync is used for PDA which doesn't have Bluetooth function, but it will be also more convenient to use it than using Bluetooth manager program even for Bluetooth enabled PDA. When you use the SysOn Blue Sync, you don't need to connect the Bluetooth every time through Bluetooth manager. The Blue Syn search for nearby SysOn Bluetooth GPS and get the connectio automatically.
The Compact Flash (CF) card is one kind of I/O(input/output) card to use as memory expansion, modem, Bluetooth or barcode scanner etc. There are two types, which is type I (3.3mm) and type II (5mm). Most of PDA has type II card slot, so it can use both type I and II. The SysOn CF type GPS is type I, 3.3V I/O interface card.
The function of LED light on SysOn CF plus is different from that of SysOn CF memory GPS. SysOn CF plus LED : The LED light means that it has right Com port. When you plug in the GPS, the LED light become on for a short time then it is out. After you set the Com port, the LED light will be still on. Therefore the LED light doesn't mean GPS signal reception. To save the PDA battery, some PDA turn off the LED light after it has right Com port. ( Exception: In the Dell Axim x51v, the LED light is always on.)
SysOn CF memory LED : The LED means GPS signal reception. Once it is pluged in the PDA and there is satellite signal, the LED light become blinking even when the Com port is not correct. And when the GPS signal is fixed, the LED will be on. If the LED is on but map software cannot show the signal, please check the Com port and Baud rate.
Dell PDA have some different features in hardware, which generate compatibility issues with many CF type GPS. With same CF plus unit, one Dell x5 works well while another doesn't work. After the Dell x5 model came out, we found this problem and changed some components to support this model. CF plus II units with the serial number starting with 040820*** or with the bigger number than this are compatible with Dell Axim x5.
No. We, SysOnChip,Inc only provideGPS receiver hardware except for Looket G7, so customers should buy the map software for themselves. There are map+ GPS bundles in many webstores or resellers so you can buy the package.
Most of case, this happens when the driver is not installed correctly. Please remove 'elSD MMC Flash Card Driver' in the Start/Setting/System/Remove program and reinstall the driver. Sometimes this message comes out when the CF pin part of GPS or PDA doesn't work properly.
When the driver is installed completely, you can hear 'Di-ring, di-ring' sound when you plug in the CF memory GPS. And you can see the 'elSD MMC Flash Card Driver" in the Start/Setting/System/Remove program. And there is 'Mounted Volume'or 'Flash Drive' in File Explorer/My Device, when the card is in the slot. If one of these three checking point is not satisfied, it means that the driver is not installed correctly.
The back up battery in the SysOn CF Plus is rechargeable and when fully discharged and recharged it can last for more than 500 charges. The battery starts recharging immediately after it gets it's location data. The last location data is saved to shorten the TTFF (time to first fix). We find that even after 3 months of not using the CF Plus, the device still warm starts. Eventually, after a longer time of non-use, the battery will be discharged fully and fall back to cold start, but this does not shorten the life of the battery at all
SysOn GPS basically supports both NMEA and SiRF mode. In the previous version of SysOn Viewer program, the mode can be changed to SiRF, but many user confused and have difficulties with this protocol changing function. And all the map software support NMEA-0183(standar) mode and the it is more stable to use NMEA mode. So, the recent version of SysOn viewer (v 2.0) doesn't have this protocol changing function. If you want to change the mode, please use other freeware viewer program(Winfast Navigator download http://www.pocketgps.co.uk/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=8).
HP iPAQ 2210, Toshiba e740 might have different port number from the manual book unlike other PDA. Once other device is plug in the CF slot, it sometimes dominates one port number, and still occupies the port even after it plug out. When one port does not work, please try other port Com1 or Com7.
This message comes out when it is set to wrong Com port. In this case, take out the CF GPS and disconnect and exit the viewer. Then execute again and plug in the GPS. There will be message which saying "Device detected" and there will be Com port. That's the port number you can use. Go to GPS/Connect Setting and select the available port number and choose 4800 baud rate.
If the laptop PC has CF slot, you can directly connect the CF plus with it. And when the PC has a PCMCIA slot, you can use a PCMCIA-CF adapter. When you use the CF plus GPS with laptop PC, you need to use SysOn External antenna because of antenna direction. The driver for laptop PC is in the CD and our website. Please refer to the User Guide for instrution.
You will see the message "The program you have installed may not display properly because it was designed for a previous version of Windows Mobile software", when you install the CF memory driver in your Windows Mobile 2003 SE PDA. You can ignore this message. The driver was designed in WM2003 when it is programed, but the driver file is compatible in WM 2003 Second Edition. This message just let you know the driver is made in previous circumstance.
The CF memory GPS combines the CF plus GPS and memory to save the map software or data. There are three different capacity (256MB, 512MB and 1GB) in CF memory GPS. This memory will be useful storage for map software and other data. You don't need to bring map software separately. Other difference is that CF plus doesn't need driver because it is a plug&play product while the CF memory GPS need the driver file for the memory part. You can download the driver file through our website. For laptop users we recommend CF plus GPS.
To use CF type GPS, your PDA should have CF slot or you can add the CF expansion pack for the PDA to use CF GPS. To use Bluetooth GPS, you need Bluetooth enabled PDA or the SysOn Blue Sync can add the function in iPAQ PDA. The two types have their merit. The CF type doesn't need to charge the GPS because it plugs into PDA and uses the PDA power. The Bluetooth GPS has wireless connection, so you can put the GPS any place on the dashboard. Or you can put it in your pocket when you use it on walking.
Most of navigaiton software has enormous data and many function, so sometimes it is not easy to tell which has problem. For this reason, we provide SysOn Viewer program for PDA to find the settings and check whether GPS is working or not. You can see the basic information like latitude and longitude with this simple SocViewer program. This program supports Pocket PC and Windows Mobile 2002, 2003, 2003 SE, 5.0 O/S.
You can use SysOn Bluetooth GPS in the laptop computer which has Bluetooth function and SPP(Serial Port Profile). Each laptop computer company may have different setting interface but they are similar. Find and enable the Serial Port and then seach for the SysOn Smart Blue or SysOn Bluetooth GPS. After it has connection find the Outbound Com port number and input the number into your map software.
You can use the Bluetooth GPS with SysOn Blue Sync if your device is iPAQ PDA. The SysOn Blue Sync is Bluetooth adapter for PDA which enables PDA to be workable with SysOn Bluetooth GPS product. The connector type supports HP iPAQ PDA. For more information, please refer to the website. This is good solution for the PDA which doesn't have Bluetooth function and CF slot.
The Bluetooth connection is stable within 10 meters. When there is obstacle between the two devices the connection range can be less than 10 meters. If the Bluetooth commucation is disconnected even when the devices are very near, the Bluetooth module in the GPS or PDA can be faulty. Or, sometimes the noise from other connection can make the noise and interfere the signal. The HP iPAQ 2210 has some problem in using map software in the SD slot and the Bluetooth GPS. This is because of bug in PDA itself, so this can happen with other company's Bluetooth GPS as well as SysOn GPS. In this case, please use the CF type memory for the map software. If you find that the Bluetooth module has problem, please check the warranty period and contact the reseller.
If the Bluetooth GPS worked in other place but shows bad performance in your car, please check the coating material in the car windshield. Some metallic coating material block the signal coming through the window. In this case connect the SysOn external antenna with the GPS and put the patch antenna part on the non-coating area.
The passkey for Bluetooth connection is 0000(four numerical zero). Some recently produced PDA have basically don't need to input passkey, but when you changed the Bluetooth setting it can ask you the passkey. If you want to change the setting not to input every time, please go to Bluetooth setting/Serial port, check the enable to 'service' and disable the 'Authorization required' and 'Authentication(Passkey) required'.
To accept stronger GPS signal, it is better to put the unit near the Window. But if you put the unit on the dashboard in higher temperature than 50o (140o F) in summer, the inner battery and the board can be damaged seriously. And the battery can explode when the temperature exceed some limit . So move the Bluetooth GPS to other shaddy place when you pull over the car in the sunlight for a long time.
